New Album "Roll on" Available Now

Biography

Jake Eckert was born April 27, 1976 in Chicago, and at a young age moved to Atlanta, GA.  Music was in Jake’s blood from the beginning, his great-grand parents were both well known professional vaudeville musicians in Chicago in the 1920s & ‘30s, while his grandmother and mother both played organ as well.  He took his first paid gig in Atlanta at age fifteen, and was introduced to the thriving Georgia music scene, where he cut his teeth with the likes of Derek Trucks, Col. Bruce Hampton, and the Marshall Tucker Band.  During the late ‘90s his bands Morning Glory and Papa Gumbo both made a significant footprint around the southeast, with Jake’s guitar playing noted as the highlight of these outfits.

Jake moved to Los Angeles in 2000, and over the next 7 years he played numerous recording sessions.  But with his roots in the world of live music, Jake also performed live in southern California on a regular basis, most notably as a member of the L.A.-based funk/jazz band New Soul Underground, which had the honor of recording and performing with legendary guitarist Larry Carlton.  Jake also taught music in Hollywood at the world-renowned guitar school G.I.T. during this time.

In early 2007 Jake joined the legendary Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and still reigns as their guitarist today.  The new gig brought him to New Orleans, where he and his family currently live to this day.  His work with “the Dozen” over the past 4 years has given Jake the opportunity to travel around the world several times with the band, and perform at some of the world’s most majestic venues, such as Palace Square in St. Petersburg, Russia, and the Paradiso in Amsterdam.  Some notable performances that Jake has had the pleasure of participating in include the 2009 Grammy Awards with Allan Toussaint, Lil’ Wayne, Robin Thicke, and the opening of the 2010 NFL season w/ Dave Matthews Band.

Jake has finally released his long-awaited first solo album – Roll On – which dropped in September of 2010.  Due to his incredibly busy schedule with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, the album took around three years to finish, and features Jake’s signature guitar work, stellar original compositions, and his unique vocal stylings which many have compared to New Orleans legend Dr. John.  Roll On is a horn heavy, funky recap of Jake’s musical journey over the last decade, and includes an all-star cast of characters showing their support, with luminaries such as George Porter Jr., Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Terence Higgins, Lee Thornburg and Cornell Williams, along with up’n’comers Joe Ashlar, CR Gruver and Josh Day, to name a few.  Currently he is writing and doing pre-production for his follow-up release that should be out in late 2011.  In addition to all of this, Jake is a member of New Orleans Suspects, an exciting new project that boasts an all-star cast of New Orleans musicians, including Willie Green (Neville Brothers), Reggie Scanlan (The Radiators), CR Gruver (Outformation) and Kevin Harris (Dirty Dozen). The Suspects are also underway with the recording of their debut release.

Jake has performed or recorded with Dr. John, Allan Toussaint, Lil’ Wayne, Larry Carlton, Warren Haynes, George Porter Jr., Tower of Power, Widespread Panic, Jesse McCartney, Dave Matthews Band, Modest Mouse, Terence Blanchard, Robbie Krieger, Art Neville, Charles Neville, Cyril Neville, Ivan Neville, “Mean” Willie Green, Mike Landau, Kirk Fletcher, Otiel Burbridge, Kofi Burbridge, Adam Deitch, Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, James Andrews, Chali2na, The Radiators, and many more…….

Jake endorses Gibson Guitars, Mesa Boogie Amps, DR Strings, & Xotic Effects.

Some press quotes about Jake Eckert:

“Eckert is one of the most overlooked and underrated jam guitarists out there.  His tack and patience is impressive.  He lurks and stomps in the background but can swiftly step into tinkling jams that spoon perfectly with the bellows of his brassy band mates.”  — Jason Blevins/Reverb.com

“Jake works the guitar into extremely funky realms”  — Denver Post

“Guitarist Jake Eckert is a virtuoso”  — Jen Cray/Inc19.com
